“The Cloudknitters” with Leo Reijnders
Leo Reijnders: “The journey for me started In 2004 when a friend of mine in Antwerp asked me to paint his house at the street side. I created a wall painting, and named it "The Cloudknitter". A year later, i used the same concept i created when I was given the opportunity to work at a radio station to develop my radio program. My goal with this radio program was to create and provide a platform for artists by artists of all different disciplines. My radio program, 'The Cloudknitter' broadcasts on Radio Central in Antwerpen.
You could say that in that moment I took the step to become one of my own creations, as I stepped into the painting, essentially, I became the Cloudknitter. 5 years ago I wrote a short story, and created art based on my original art work of the Cloudknitter. This gave birth to my current exhibit featured at the West LA College.
I asked American Artists who were personal friends and acquaintances of mine if they were interested in creating art based on the Cloudknitter. These are all individuals whose works i admire, and i hoped they would be inspired my work as well, and luckily for me they were.
This exhibit features my art, a short animation movie I created, and a short story, all about the Cloudknitter. It also includes art created by other artists inspired by my artwork for the cloudknitter story. Other participants of the exhibit also include dancers, musicians, and performers.”
