Flemish Minister Dalle Makes Remarks at ECOSOC Youth Forum
On April 8, Flemish Minister Benjamin Dalle participated in the 2021 Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum virtual round table. The Forum provides a global platform for a candid dialogue among Member States and young leaders from around the world on solutions to challenges affecting youth wellbeing. It also serves as a unique space for young people to share their vision and actions as well as to provide youth perspectives on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs.
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the ECOSOC Youth Forum, a group of Youth Ministers joined the conversation on the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals within their respective governments during a UN Web TV live event. Mr. Dalle, Flemish Minister of Brussels, Media, and Youth, represented Belgium together with Ms. Oriane Schmidt, a youth representative nominated by the Forum des Jeunes in Belgium. Minister Dalle stated that "it is sometimes said, with nostalgia, that this generation is a weak generation. I am convinced of the contrary: also during the Covid crisis, this young generation has demonstrated commitment, solidarity, and resilience."
The two-day virtual event featured plenary sessions, interactive thematic and regionally-based discussions, and provided an opportunity for a rich exchange of views and ideas on innovative solutions to issues of relevance to young people on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and also on the sustainable development goals under review in the Economic and Social Council and the High-level Political Forum in 2021.
