The General Delegation of the Government of Flanders is pleased to announce that our General Delegate, Geert De Proost, has been elected President of the European Union National Institutes for Culture Cluster in New York (EUNIC). Geert De Proost assumed the position of EUNIC President at the 51nst EUNIC New York Cluster meeting held at The Goethe Institute in New York.

Established in 2006, EUNIC believes in promoting cultural diversity and mutual understanding across cultures. Over the past 12 years, EUNIC has evolved into a global network wherein European cultural diplomacy constitutes the driving force. EUNIC members around the world gather in clusters to collaborate with local partners and develop projects and activities aimed at showcasing the EU and its diversity.

EUNIC New York includes the EU Delegation to the UN and various EU members with their respective cultural institutes such as Instituto Cervantes, Goethe Institute and Czech Center. The General Delegation of the Government of Flanders in the USA is an active member of the NY Cluster and participates in various projects including the European Literature Night, Panorama Europe Film Festival and New Literature from Europe Festival.

This year has been proclaimed the European Year of Cultural Heritage by the EU.  As President of the EUNIC NY Cluster for the remainder of 2018, the Government of Flanders welcomes the opportunity to promote European cultural heritage in New York. The General Delegation of the Government of Flanders looks forward to working together with EUNIC members, associates and partners to highlight the rich cultural diversity and heritage of the European Union.
