Flanders House will substantially underwrite the first exhibition in the U.S. devoted to the Flemish artist Jan Gossaert (1478-1532), who was one of the first to infuse the style of the Italian Renaissance into the pictorial tradition of the Low Countries. The show, organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is entitled Man, Myth, and Sensual Pleasures: Jan Gossart's Renaissance. Initially a typical representative of the Flemish style, he became completely enchanted by classical art and started to work wholly from its ideas. Man, Myth, and Sensual Pleasures will open to the public October 6 and will run through January 17, 2011.
