Ephameron at Coney Island
The versatility of Antwerp-based graphic designer, illustrator and artist Ephameron was already demonstrated last year, when her graphic novel ‘Weg’ was published. The book, created in collaboration with Pieter van Oudheusden, was presented at the University of Antwerp in an ideal setting: in front of a wall painting by Ephameron, which will stay in place for a year. Equally ephemeral is her latest creation: a 20-meter-long wall painting on Coney Island, New York. The organizers of No Longer Empty invited OverUnder, Veng and Ephameron to create images on the enclosure surrounding a large building site. Ephemaron was commissioned to realize a 20-metre-long mural painting on the theme of water. With her husband’s assistance, she completed the job in 10 hours. Ephameron likes to capture the everyday moments and intimate feelings that make up a human life. Hands, birds and portraits tend to pop up in her brush strokes, taped line drawings and subtle color palettes. No elaborate concepts, but sensitive pieces of art straight from the heart. Ephameron graduated in Fine Arts and Illustrative Design. She divides her time between teaching, illustrating, curating and designing. Her clients range from cultural institutions over shops to magazines like De Standaard, Weekend Knack and Modart. In her free time, Ephameron likes to organize and contribute to worldwide exhibitions. In her hometown Antwerp she has been curating the group expo Art Trek for five years now.
