Bollylicious at Battery Dance Festival (indoor)
Bollylicious, a Belgium-based dance collective, was founded in 2012, with the intention of bringing Indian dance culture in its broadest sense to international audiences. They aim at presenting the richness and diversity of Indian dance, performing classical, folk and popular genres side-by-side in a format that is accessible for people with and without Indian cultural background. The dancers provide an interesting mix of Bollywood and other dance styles such as Kathak, dances from the region of Rajasthan including the famous Kalbeliya dance form, Salsa, Flamenco and contemporary dance. With such fusion performances, Bollylicious renders a unique flavor to their shows, with a good dose of energy, humor and an authentic Indian touch.
They perform all facets of Indian dance, from classical to popular genres, in an effort to present Indian dance in a way that is accessible to people of all backgrounds. Bollylicious has brought Bollywood to Dutch and Belgian television through appearances on Dansdate and So You Think You Can Dance. In March of 2016, they performed for India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji during his visit to Brussels. Having been touring in India for the past two years, the dance technique of Bollylicious has recieved much praise there. From shows at the Neemrana Fort Palace to private performances for His Excellency Gaj Singh, Maharaja of Jodhpur, Bollylicious has found success performing for a wide array of occasions and audiences.
Established by Battery Dance in 1982 as the Downtown Dance Festival, today the Battery Dance Festival (BDF) is New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival. Audiences are traditionally drawn from the large downtown working population and residents, families, tourists, senior citizens and dance fans from the greater NYC metropolitan area. Each year, the Festival draws a combined audience of over 12,000 people.
The Battery Dance Festival provides a unique opportunity for outstanding dancers and choreographers to present original works of high artistic merit in a free public forum. BDF revels in the panoply of dance that our city offers, with strong emphasis on the inclusion of diverse dance styles and an international roster of performers.
